Yoga Class Etiquette

At Soleil Lune, we believe yoga is a sacred, grounding, sometimes emotional, occasionally sweaty experience…

and also—we’re all just humans trying our best not to step on each other’s mats.

So here’s your guide to moving through the space with awareness, respect, and just the right amount of humor.

Arrive Early (Your Nervous System Will Thank You)

Give yourself about 10–15 minutes before class to arrive, settle, and breathe like a person who has their life together.

Rushing in two minutes late, tossing your mat down, and immediately entering downward dog while your soul is still in the parking lot?

Not the vibe.

If you are late—no shame. Just wait for a moment of movement and slip in quietly like the graceful ninja you are becoming.

Turn Off Your Electronics (Yes… Even That One)

Nothing brings a room out of collective peace faster than a rogue ringtone.

Especially if it’s… your mother-in-law.

Phones, watches, anything that buzzes, dings, or announces your existence to the room—turn it off. Fully. Not “silent but still lighting up like a disco ball.”

This is your time to disconnect so you can actually… connect.

Be Aware of Your Space

(We Love You, But Also… Boundaries)

Yoga is about unity, not accidental physical contact with strangers.

Give your neighbors space. Stagger your mat.

If your foot ends up in someone else’s personal bubble during warrior II… we’ve gone too far.

A little spatial awareness goes a long way.

Go Easy on the Scents (We’re Breathing Deeply Here)

Strong perfumes + deep breathing = not a great combo.

Some people are sensitive, and no one wants their pranayama to feel like a department store fragrance aisle.

If you’d like a scent moment, think subtle. Think essential oils. Think “whisper,” not “announcement.”

Save the Social Hour for Before or After

We love that you make friends here. Truly. Community matters.

But once you step into the practice space, it’s less “catch up on life” and more “catch up with yourself.”

Talking during class is distracting—and occasionally dangerous when balancing on one foot pretending we’re all stable.

So… connect, just maybe not mid-warrior pose.

Ask Questions (With Awareness)

Curiosity is welcome here. Always.

If you need support, ask. Just be mindful of the space—sometimes the room is quiet and inward, sometimes more conversational.

A good rule: catch your teacher when they come by, or ask after class.
We love helping. We really do.

Clean Up (Because Karma Is Real… and Also We’re a Team)

Wipe down your mat.

Put props back where they belong.

Stack things like a person who respects gravity.

It takes 30 seconds and saves a lot of effort for everyone else.

Also… it’s yoga. We practice mindfulness. This is part of it.

Practice Ahimsa (Non-Judgment… Including Toward Yourself)

Ahimsa means non-harming.

So yes—be kind to others.

But also… be kind to yourself.

No eye rolls at your balance.

No internal yelling because your hamstrings have boundaries.

Leave the negativity outside. Or at least soften it.

This space is for support, not self-criticism.

Namaste (You Don’t Have to Be Weird About It)

At the end of class, your teacher may say namaste.

If it feels natural, you can say it back. If not, a nod, a smile, or simply receiving the moment is perfect.

It’s just a way of saying: I see you. I honor you.

No pressure. No performance.

Take It With You (This Is the Real Practice)

If you feel calmer, lighter, more human after class—beautiful.

That’s the point.

And the real magic?

Taking that energy off the mat and into your life.

Into your conversations.

Your reactions.

Your everyday moments.

Because yoga isn’t just what happens here…

it’s how you choose to show up out there.

You don’t have to do this perfectly.

You just have to show up with a little awareness and a willingness to grow.

We’ll take care of the rest.
