Why Take A Teacher Training?

Your yoga teacher training will change your life.

This may sound like a huge, all consuming statement that could not possibly apply to everyone – but we are sure in our sentiment!

Yoga teacher trainings should really be thought of as inward journeys. They will certainly teach you practical yoga skills like alignment and proper body awareness to help you avoid injury, but what they have to offer goes so far beyond the physical—it is amazing.

Even if you never intend to teach a day in your life, here are some reasons you should take the leap and do your yoga teacher training.

You will deepen your physical practice.

This goes without saying – the attention to detail, the longer practice sessions and the newfound awareness of alignment will all help you to take your practice to a whole new level. There is a good chance that you will come out of your training expressing postures you never dreamed you would be able to. Yoga training programs bring students of all physical levels together to learn from each other’s different body types, injuries, flexibility levels, and strengths.  Watching a fellow classmate nail their 'firsts' (headstand, crow, backbend, release of hamstrings, you name it!) is always victorious to witness during your training!  And those poses you always hope the instructor skips in class...well, you just may find yourself learning to love them as you study and embody the correct alignment, modifications and benefits of each pose in detail.

You will learn some skills.

Whether you want to become self-employed teaching yoga or deepening your practice, earning your RYT is something to add to the long list of things you are skilled at.  Once you have completed your 200-hour training you will officially be eligible to register with Yoga Alliance as a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT) and access tips for starting your own studio, finding new students, and earning additional training hours.  Once you have completed your 200-hour training, you can advance your studies by completing a 300-hour trianing.  Once both of those are complete you will be considered a 500-hour RYT. Becoming a yoga teacher gives you the brilliant opportunity to deepen your practice as well as offers the freedom of self employment with the flexibility of teaching both locally and internationally.  The omnipresence of yoga means the world truly is your oyster.

You will discover your strength.

In your yoga teacher training, you will be tested; your will, your ability to hold postures, your ability to focus, your ability to speak in front of people will all be strengthened and stretched. You will come out of the other side of your training feeling physically stronger, but also mentally and emotionally stronger too. Woo Hoo!

You Will Forge New Relationships.

If there is one underrated benefit of YTT programs, it is the yoga family you will stay connected to years after your last shavasana. There is nothing quite like going through the experience of a yoga teacher training – and those you meet in your training will forever hold a special place in your heart. While delving deep into your own spiritual and physical practice, you are also supporting the journey of those around you and creating a support network of warriors.  You will understand each other in a very unique way at the end of your course, and there is a good chance that you will make friendships that last a lifetime. Upon your completion of training your yoga family will expand as you embrace your students, teachers, and community.

You will connect with yourself in a deeper way.

Through learning how your unique body works, how your unique mind works, and through your deepened spiritual practices, you will most likely walk away with a deeper sense of who you are as an individual. This will help bolster your confidence in every day life, and help you sit easier in your own skin.

You will learn new things about your mind.

You will start to notice more of your thought patterns in asana, in meditation, in lecture, in presentation, and this information will help you tune into your mental tracts. You will gain a clearer understanding of how your mind currently works, and you will then have the information you need to help you make changes if needed. Remember, as a beginner your mind is in a million pieces and your body is whole.  As a master your body is in a million pieces and your mind is whole. Generally, the act of becoming aware is the most powerful tool for transformation.

You will deepen your spiritual practices.

No matter what your current spiritual practices are, there is a good chance they will be deepened through your training. Many people who deepen their yoga practice through teacher training leave with a spiritual practice rooted in the understanding that we as people are all very connected even if we share different beliefs.  Yoga serves to help quiet the mind and attune to our true selves. This awareness provides the means to live a more conscious lifestyle and focus on what matters most.  While YTT is a very communal practice, one of the greatest benefits of the program is the self-discovery and time to reflect as you approach life with a heightened sense of awareness.

You may become a teacher.

As if this wasn’t obvious enough.  Once you have completed your YTT you will be a teacher!  Use this power to develop your own unique teaching style that is authentic and mindful.  Think back to teachers who made an positive impact on your life and strive to pay it forward to your own students.  As a teacher, you have the opportunity to give back not only to your students but also to those who may not have access to yoga.  Seek out karma yoga opportunities in local senior centers, prisons, primary schools, and other community outlets.

What to consider.

Now that you have all of the reasons to become a yoga teacher, you will find unending options to complete your training.  Here, at Soleil Lune we offer weekend based programs that span over 12 months. We find this suitable for those who can’t dedicate weekdays to learning and allow students to apply their learnings over the course of their training.

While you may not have the resources to quit your day job, we recommend taking a good look at your schedule to make sure you can dedicate the necessary amount of time and attendthe scheduled dates.  Not doing so may result in you not receiveing your certification. The intensive nature of these programs provide a year long arena to delve deep into yoga and emerge with a solid understanding of our mental and physical practices.

Take into consideration your present time commitments, lifestyle, learning style, and location preferences to find the right program for you.  If our programs don't work for you, we are happy to suggest other teacher trainings in the Milwaukee/Madison area to better suit your needs and schedule. Once you have decided, prepare yourself for intense learning, new friends, and plenty of yoga!

We look forward to your yoga journey!

Namaste,

Your Soleil Lune Staff
